Admission of Visiting Students and Guest Students

There is a fundamental difference in admission requirements for Visiting Students and Guest Students.

Visiting Students are defined as students who would like to visit the German School up to 10 days and attend classes during that time. These are typically former students who stop by to visit their former classmates.

Advanced Registration Required: Without a minimum 2 week pre-registration and the completion of an Emergency Notification Form we are unable to admit visitors to the school.

• Visiting students will not be able to participate in school outings or class trips since they are not covered under the school’s insurance policies.

• The business office will issue the permission and a visitor pass. Such visits may not exceed ten days. Visiting students will be invoiced $20 per day. Former students will not be charged for the first day of their visit.

• Visiting students will not receive a certificate of attendance for their visit at the DSW.

• Students interested in attending the DSW, are allowed a one day “snoop visit” at no cost.

Guest Students are students who will attend regular classes for more than ten days. Special conditions apply to such guests:

• Guest students who visit us from outside the United States and plan on a visit of more than 10 days in order to attend regular classes may require a student visa to enter the country.

Advanced Planning Required: Please inquire with our Admissions Office whether a student visa is required in your case. You may send an email to admissions@dswash.org with the key word Guest Student in the subject line.

• Students wishing to attend the German School Washington, D.C. as full time students must submit the following information to the school:

- Applicant’s Name

- Home Country Address

- Address in the US

- Address where the I-20 form should be sent

- Telephone Number

- E-mail Address

- Country of Citizenship

- Country of Birth

- Date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY)

- Semester in which the student plans to enter the German School Washington, D.C. (e.g., Winter Semester 2012/13)

- Duration of stay

• In addition, a recent bank statement, providing evidence that sufficient funding is available to support the student must be submitted to the school together with the I-20. Guest students are required to pay all tuition and fees during their stay.

• Furthermore, a notarized power of attorney confirming that the host family has the parents’ permission to act on the parents’ behalf must accompany the I-20 application. The following links may be helpful during the application process:

• As soon as the school is in receipt of the above-mentioned documents, we will complete the school’s sections of the I-20 and return the form to the prospective guest student.

• With the completed I-20, the guest student may apply for a student visa at the consular section of the U.S. Mission abroad.

• Guest Students will not receive a report card. An unofficial performance evaluation can be created if desired.

• Guest students cannot be admitted into Grade 12.

• The school will not provide a recommendation to promote the student to the next grade.
