Field Trip to Harpers Ferry

On October 6th the 5th graders went on an excursion to Harpers Ferry. After an hour-long bus trip and a hike through an autumnal forest along Shenandoah River, we reached the historically important site just in time for breakfast. On their expedition to find a waterway from Missouri to the Pacific, Lewis and Clark also passed this spot where Robert Harper founded a ferry service in 1747.

After conducting a scavenger hunt through the village, we enjoyed the late summer sunshine hiking up to Jefferson Rock above Harpers Ferry, where we found a great view of the junction of the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers.

Back in the village we had lunch and there was also an opportunity to try the best ice cream in the area. After playing a few games we went on a walk along the railroad bridge across the Potomac River from West Virginia to Maryland and back. At the end of this exciting day the bus took us back to the school,
