A warm welcome to our first-graders!

Dear parents,

Welcome to class 1a and 1b! In this letter you’ll find important information concerning the first week of school. You will receive more detailed information during the parent night.

First day of school:

On Monday, August 26, 2019 at 9 am, all first grade students and their parents will be greeted in front of the Elementary School. The second grade students and their teachers put a lot of effort into creating a program for everyone this morning. After the welcome assembly, the new first graders will walk to the classrooms with their new teachers for a first class.

Meanwhile, all parents are invited to a welcome coffee hour in the cafeteria. There, you may hand in all of your child’s textbooks (please label them on the outside of each book and put them in a sturdy bag), so your child doesn’t need to carry a heavy backpack on his/her first day.

Around 10:40 am, your child’s first class will already be over and the students and teachers will come back outside. The yearbook photographer will take official group photos and then you will have the opportunity to take your own individual and group pictures.

Please note, that there will be no Afternoon Program or Extended Care for first grade students on that day.

First week of school:

On Tuesday, August 27, students will spend their first full day at school. Your child will bring home the class schedule in his/her take home folder on the first day.

Doors are opening daily at 7:55 am; classes start promptly at 8:10 am. You are welcome to walk your child into the building and to the classroom for the first two weeks of school.

Students arriving by bus, will be picked up at the bus stop and escorted to and from the Elementary School for the first two weeks or until all students find the way on their own.

Daily snack time is at 9:30 am, so please send in a small and healthy snack for your child.

At 11:25 am, students are having lunch in the cafeteria. The school is offering yearly meal plans or single lunch tickets. Your child may also bring lunch from home.

Please look at the class schedule to find out your child’s P.E. and swim days and make sure to send in the P.E. uniform or swim supplies on these days.

In case of sickness, please leave a message with Ms. Ursula Eberhard at 301.767.3841.

We look forward to meeting you and your child! Maybe your child would like to bring a picture or drawing to school on the first day. We would love to have something special to put up on the board!

Kind regards and we look forward to a great school year!
