DSW Alumni in the Sports Headlines

Two former DSW students are currently seizing the sports media’s spotlight.

Fans of professional football, basketball & Co. will be excited to hear about Arian Ghashghai’s website The 19-year-old, who attended DSW from 2000 to 2012, founded the website which automatically aggregates online sports news articles. Arian spent last spring developing a code that identifies articles about teams and links to them on “I just had the idea to have the computer do it for me,” he said to the local newspaper The Gazette. The website has pages for teams in the four most popular American professional sports leagues — the NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball — as well as the English Premier League in soccer. Arian graduated in 2012 from DSW and is now a rising junior at Georgetown University.

Swimmer Malena Lair Ferrari, who attended DSW from 1997 to 2010, celebrated one of her biggest successes in February at the Centennial Conference. The 24-year-old was named the Outstanding Performer of the Meet after capturing Gold in three events. She also became just the second woman to win four 200 backs, touching the wall first in 2:07.24. Eleven highly selective private colleges from Maryland and Pennsylvania compete in the annual Centennial Conference in different disciplines. Malena, who holds German and Argentinian citizenship, graduated from Ursinus College in the spring of this year and will move to Argentina in September where she will continue to swim on the national team.
