DSW Wins Competition of German Schools Abroad

The German School Washington D.C. won second place with the project „Students found Businesses“ in the competition of German Schools Abroad organized by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). On May 10, 2016, DSW teachers and students were invited to Berlin to be awarded prize money in the amount of 40.000 Euro .

German Schools Abroad submitted a total of 340 projects. The German School Washington was able to impress with their project, where tenth graders found virtual businesses under the guidance of industry experts of the German Executive Roundtable (GER).

„In the U.S., the land of entrepreneurial spirit and free economy, we are able to open doors to career paths with this project. This might not have been possible in Germany. Students have the opportunity to start-up a business and develop ideas that they pursue after their graduation,” says Head of School, Petra Palenzatis.

The prizes were awarded by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Since 2007, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) uses this competition to give German Schools Abroad more exposure in politics and in the general public.

The competition initiated a number of new projects within the schools and lasting impulses for further developments of the network of German Schools Abroad.
