Elementary School: New Regulation regarding Lost & Found

Dear Elementary School parents,

The weather in our area is often unpredictable and can change very quickly. Thus, our students bring many items of clothing to school during this time of the year. Winter coats, jackets, mittens, scarves, hats; everything seems necessary! Recently, we have noticed that many articles of clothing stay at the school for long periods of time or get lost over time. Sometimes clothes don’t get properly put away, or get tossed on the floor. Our cleaning crew then picks up these items and may accidentally put them in another area.  Our students spend time in the Elementary School building, on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the gym, in the changing room, and possibly in other rooms during the afternoon program. It is no surprise that items get lost at times.

In order to help with this issue, we would like to ask for your help with the following:

-At the end of the week, we would like the students to take home all items that belong to them. This way, we can avoid that things remain at school for extended periods of time and eventually get lost or misplaced. The items that are then left in the hallways can be brought to the “Lost and Found” so that missing items can be picked up there.

-Please take a look at the items that your child brings home and make sure that the items actually belong to your child. Sometimes items look very similar and thus mistakes can easily happen. If your child brings something home that is not his or hers, then please ask them to return it promptly to the “Lost and Found” at school.

-Please label items of clothing with your child’s name.

-Please speak to your child about treating his or her personal belongings with care.

Our teachers and Ms. Schweitzer have covered this topic with our students and we will remind our students regularly.

Thank you for your support in this matter!
