Grades 1 through 4: Spirit Week

Dear parents of grades 1 through 4,

This year, the class representatives of the Elementary School met several times with Mrs. Rodrigues and Ms. Schweitzer to discuss one of our values at the DSW: community. This value was chosen because it is one of the pillars of our FROG program and we like to encourage our students to think and act in a community-oriented manner. The students agreed that we are very fortunate to have a close-knit community and that it is easy to feel a sense of belonging in our school. Earlier this school year, we thought about projects that might further support the sense of community that we already feel in our Elementary School in a fun manner. We decided to take a page from the upper-level school and organize our first spirit week for grades 1-4! In our meeting in May, the student representatives came prepared with topic ideas that they had collected amongst their classmates, and the details of our Spirit Week were decided upon. The Spirit Week will take place Monday, June 8th , 2015 through Friday, June 12th, 2015. The students will be encouraged to dress according to a different topic every day that week. The goal is for the students to have fun and to experience a sense of “togetherness” while all their peers (and possibly some of the staff…) dress up similarly. The topics that were chosen are the following:

Monday, June 8th, 2015:  Twin Day (Pick a friend or partner and dress the same or very similar.)

Tuesday, June 9th, 2015: Beach Day (Think Hawaiian prints, … pants/skirts and shirts will still be mandatory.)

Wednesday, June 10th, 2015: Formal Day (formal business attire)

Thursday, June 11th, 2015: Switcheroo Day (Boys dress like girls, girls dress like boys.)

Friday, June 12th, 2015:  School Color Day (Wear something blue, red, or yellow, or mix them all together!)
