5k Oktoberfest Run & Fun Run 2015

One of DSW’s major sports events took place on Saturday, September 26, 2015. 398 runners participated in our 4th annual 5k Oktoberfest-Lauf & Fun Run. At 9:00 am, Dana McKay of 94.7 Fresh FM sent the motivated runners off to a challenging 5k course.

Some of our DSW students quickly took the lead of the pack. 9th grader Shai Neal was the fastest overall male runner at 19:02 minutes. He was closely followed by his brother Niko who is in 7th grade and finished after 19:10 minutes. All results are available here.       66 enthusiastic up-and-coming runners participated in the Fun Run and conquered the hill on Chateau Drive with surprising ease.

The run was rounded off by a traditional Oktoberfest celebration. After the award ceremony, the band Low’n’Brows added German traditional tunes to the event while our Director of Food Services, Susanne Koehler took care of our culinary longings with Bratwurst, Curry Wurst, potato salad and other treats. Our younger guests were entertained by games and language activities organized and offered by GLC teachers.

The event would not have been possible without the support of over 70 volunteers. We would like to thank all helpers who contributed to the success of the event. We would also like to express our gratitude to our sponsors, in particular our platinum sponsor Ernst & Young and our gold sponsor Paramount Transportation Systems. Our silver level sponsors are Condor, DB Schenker, Lufthansa, and Dentist Cord Schlobohm. Our bronze level sponsors are BMW, Fritsch, LRR CPA & Associate, International Moving Services (IMS), and Brauns International.

As in the past, proceeds from the event will benefit both schools, the DSW and the GLC. We will inform you shortly how much we have raised and how the proceeds will be used. With proceeds of the 2014 Oktoberfest Run, we purchased a new sound system which was used for the first time at Saturday’s Oktoberfest celebration and will be used again in the future for theater and music productions as well as other school events.

Do you have any suggestions how to make the event even better? We appreciate your feedback. Please share your thoughts with Susanne Rosenbaum at

We thank all runners and guests for participating in the 5k Oktoberfest Run & Fun Run 2015 and hope to you will participate again next year!
