May 21, 2014: Elementary School Sports Day

Dear parents of students grades 1-4,

Wednesday, May 21, 2014, we will host the Elementary School Sports Day with track and fields at the upper soccer field followed by a Sponsored Run at the Elementary School soccer field. (Raindate: May, 28)

Track and fields: All students work their way through different stations. Teachers will accompany each class. Setting up and supervision of each station requires the active participation of 2 to 3 parents from each class. Parents willing to help contact Ms. Scholl by email at: no later than May 14. Parents volunteering for the event will meet for briefing and station set up at 7:30a.m. on May 21, 2014 at the entrance door of the Elementary School gym.

As extra refreshments for all students, we ask parents to contribute health and sports field-suitable finger food. In the past parents kindly brought bite-size vegetables and dip, cut-up fresh fruit or crackers. Considering the outdoor nature of this event, please avoid bringing perishable food. Your child should still bring her/his normal breakfast snack. The Elementary School will provide water.

Sponsored Run: Depending on their age, the students will run for 15 minutes, aiming for as many laps as possible on a 100 to 300 meter track. Before the event, each runner is expected to secure as many sponsors as possible- parents, other family members, neighbors, friends, companies, etc. who offer an amount of their choice per lap run by the child. Sponsors need to complete a short form provided in advance to each student by the homeroom teacher. Completed sponsor forms must be returned to the homeroom teacher by May 19. During the run, the school staff will record the achievement of each student. Sponsors should then receive the results from the student directly and kindly provide payment by check to “The German School Society” with memo line stating “Sponsored Run ES”. Proceeds will be used for the purchase of playground equipment at the Elementary School’s recess area. Sponsors can list their name on a form that is distributed by the home room teacher. If needed, we can provide you with additional lists.

Thank you very much for your support, we look forward to seeing you there as volunteer or spectator.
